My husband spent a fortune to figure out why it is red, and I've always said it was yeast, when everything else has not been listening. :)
It sounds like a fungal cause. Try some OTC drugs, such as yeast Gyne-Lotrimin. or Monistat. They are even in generic terms, and are the same element found in some creams scheme, since the fungus can grow anywhere. (used at all)
